Just casually riding in the dressage ring when another passing riders horse decides to kick out at Patrick and gets me in the shin. Hurt like hell but I kept riding until I noticed I was bleeding through my breeches, boot socks (brand new 😭) and leather chaps. So that’s how I ended my day in the emergency room getting stitches. 😫
Seriously why does it always have to be the cream breeches! They are currently soaking in hopes the blood will come out and the hole in them is tiny compared to my leg (how does that work?) I saved them from the admitting nurse who wanted to cut them up the leg to better assess the injury. #priorities
I bought new boots and chaps this week but as I had to wait until they ordered my size boots in I luckily didn’t wear my new chaps only because I went for black and my current boots are brown.
Introduced in 1930, Snickers chocolate bars (my favourite),were named after the favorite horse of the Mars family!
Oops left a significant amount of boot polish on a fence post!
You will need:
- A wooden backed grooming brush
I got my brush for about $8 at Horseland but there are heaps of options on eBay for a lot less. Start by giving the brush a light going over with sand paper, to remove any varnish or sealant that will stop your paint from adhering, then give it a good wash to remove any dust and dirt. Once the brush is clean and completely dry I gave mine a base coat of white so my paint colours would look nice and bright. I chose purple as my background colour as the rest of my brushes are all purple, I find sticking to one colour helps me better identify my stuff.
Now you can choose any design you want and free hand it onto the brush but as I picked a slightly more complex design I printed mine of on printer paper and transferred the outline on. You can do this by taking a pencil and covering the back of your image with lead. Turn back to the front and place your design on the brush and pressing firmly trace the outline of your design this will transfer a light outline onto the brush.
I painted on my design using acrilic paint and used a permanent marker for some super fine detail. Because I’m essentially a 5 year old at heart I mixed some glitter with a clear drying glue to add some sparkle! 💎💖 To finish coat the entire thing in varnish or a clear drying glue to protect your design!
I’m super happy with how this turned out, they would make super cute gifts!
Ha so true, or I just have to marry someone with a last name starting with R!

Turns out getting a selfie with Patrick is hard, he tried to eat my phone!
I was reading an article in Hoofbeats magazine about worming (glamorous I know) by Laye Meynell and Dr Ann Nyland and came across this quote “With scientific research steadily replacing traditional ‘horse lore’, and a wealth of knowledge regarding equine health now readily available to anybody that cares to search, our opinions on best practice are continuously being updated.”
Science has so many amazing insights with regards to education and training, tack and equipment and how best to care for our four legged friends, if you have an open mind and are willing to put in a little time to research different sources you can learn so much, it’s a shame that in the horse world so many people are still using outdated practices just because that’s the way it’s always been done.
Onwards and upwards people!
The Origionals is one of my favourite shows right now, it has some extremely talented actors, great humour and the perfect amount of gore, my only wish is that Netflix Australia and iTunes would have more episodes available, I mean I know it’s an American show but come on like 90% of the cast are Australian! 🇦🇺 One of these extremely talented Australian actors is Nathaniel Buzolic. I follow him on Instagram because as well as portraying bad boy Kol Mikaelson on the show quite brilliantly he is also an amazing photographer.
Now this isn’t strictly equestrian related but I think a really beautiful idea and we all need to remember to save a little of the love we give to our family, friends and horses for ourselves. So when I came across this I had to share.
From @natebuzz on Instagram: “I have struggled with the idea of loving myself for the longest time, and you would probably be surprised at how many people deal with the same issue today. I wanted to do something positive this week, maybe to remind myself of why I should in fact, actually love myself. Using my @Myliliapp I have created a list called #10ThingsILoveAboutMe pretty simple stuff but it could be a great way for you to remind yourself that you are in fact awesome, unique and special. Download the Lili app (it’s free) if you haven’t got it already (Link in my bio) and join me in making some great lists. I am gonna feature my favorite list that one of my followers creates so please add the hashtag #10ThingsILoveAboutMe in the list title. Make your list by 8/1, and Follow me on Lili @natebuzz.
